Photos of surfaces and textures around the home:
At the start of this workshop we were asked to take photographs of interesting textures and surfaces around us in the home. I actually found this a really useful photography task as the short time limit forced me not to over think the photos and just focus on finding interesting shapes and things around me that I've become so blind to and not really fully noticed before - finding the beauty in the mundane. Below are some of the photos I took around the home:
Edits/Experiments:
We were then asked to either digitally or by hand to edit our photos to fit our chosen word for the project. So with mine being futures I decided to try and make some of the photos look very scientific and futuristic by playing around with laying, different filters and saturation in photoshop. I actually really like the outcome of these images, some of them look quite cellular and unrecognisable from their initial form, particularly the first photo on the left which originally was a close up picture of some brick. Although I wasn't initially considering going taking such a stereotypical, science fiction, futuristic approach, I actually really like how these edits came out so will consider including this aesthetic and style in my final outcome.
Surface and Textures Workshop 2:
For the second surface and textures workshop we were asked to play around with the impact of light on textures e.g. how close or far away the light source either harshens or softens the texture. I took pictures of a piece of plastic foil and a yellow wooden jumper. The photos of the foil are my favourite and fit my futures brief the best I think. I really like how changing the angle and experimenting with the light really changes the depth of the foil, with in some photos it looking almost 2D. After taking these photos I definitely want to include foil in my bedroom installation as it one, looks really futuristic, two, creates some really interesting textures and three, reflects and retracts light in some really interesting ways which I think could really enhance the futuristic and dreamlike look I think I'm going to go for in my photos.
