Book Layout Inspiration

I've realised that I definitely want my book to have a zine and sketchbooky feel/layout to it, as they tend to be so playful and vibrant, at least the ones I'm drawn too, and I think this kind of style could really enhance the lively, inner child theme to my images.

Here are some artists, zines and images that I really like the look of.

Matty Bovan - Fashion sketchbook:

I'm really drawn to the borders and background in these images - the use of different coloured washy tape is really clever as well as the graphic doodles on top of the images and geometric backgrounds - it really brings the garments and subjects in the photos to life and I really enjoy the sketchbook/messy feel, it really adds to the lively nature of the clothes.

Rachel Hodgson:

Stephanie Francis Shanahan:

I found Stephanie's work through an ID article https://i-d.vice.com/en_uk/article/y3g3xw/csm-ma-fashion-image-graduate-interview and thought that it was absolutely perfect inspiration for my project. I love the bright colours, the very sketchbook feel to how she organises and layouts her images, the inclusion of scribbles and childlike drawings and how the images really don't take themselves too seriously. These pieces really take me back to my childhood through their wonderful playfulness and I will definitely being try to edit my work in a similar way to create a similar effect.

Zines:

I thought I would look at some zines for inspiration too, as they tend to be incredibly playful and creative with they're layouts and imagery. They also make really good use of the DIY aesthetic, which is definitely something I would like to achieve with my own book. Below are some of the zines that I either follow online or find really inspiring:

All my friends - zine

I really like the use of stickers in these pictures and much like Shanahan's work seen above ^ also really takes me back to my childhood. I think that I could definitely try and play with digitally placing stickers onto my own images to give them an even more playful and youthful feel.

Anna Koblish

Uses a very Y2K aesthetic with fish eye lenses, neon colour palette and very saturated imagery which I really enjoy and is definitely very fitting for my project considering my shoot being very inspired by Y2K and 90's rave fashion and aesthetics.
